The weblog had been titled “Going to Scotland”, and when we created it we didn’t think for a minute that we would return to Germany. And now we’re returning there, and only after 11 months. There are a few reasons, but not liking it here is none of them. This is a great country, and the people are very nice as well; but some things that have happened draw us back to our families again.

This time we won’t have a caravan. And I also wouldn’t want to tow one again, these things are an annoyance.. it was funny for the one time, but I don’t need to repeat the experience… =)

No, this time we will try to stuff everything in a car. It should work fine. And then we will have to find jobs and a home again in Deutschland.

As friends have pointed out, this could have been done much easier and without the detour via Edinburgh, but neither Anu nor I regret coming here for a second. It certainly was an experience to live and work in a foreign country; it widens the individual reality-tunnel even further.

So, what’s up next? I honestly don’t know just now, but I’ll hopefully find out later this year.

…and neither Anu nor me have made it to a single show yet. True, we went to the Meadows on Fringe Sunday to get a glimpse on what’s going on, we walked amidst the masses of people up and down the royal mile, chatted with people trying to get us interested in specific shows and I spend nearly all of my lunch breaks looking at street performers at the moment.

But we haven’t bought a single ticket yet. For various reasons… we would be interested in seeing something, but then we fear that we wouldn’t get the jokes. If they were about cultural or political issues or something like that we’d most certainly miss them, and if the comedian was from Manchester or Glasgow we wouldn’t understand a single word.

There is only one show I’d really like to see, and that is Mr Henry Rollins; he’ll do a show on the next four evenings, starting at 23:15. So, with any luck I’d be in bed at, say 1:30 in the morning, and would have to get up at 6:30. Not a big deal, agreed, but the show is also priced at 15 pound, and to get home in a timely fashion I’d have to call a cab – so make that 30 pound all in all.

And that’s quite a lot of money for an hour of entertainment. Maybe we should go see Fuerzabruta  – at least there is not a lot of spoken word there. But the ticket is even higher – 25 pound per person, which might be ok since they really brought a lot of equipment; it’s still a lot of money.

Any recommendations for today or tomorrow?

incredibly busy in enjoying our lives, I should say. Every now and then I think of you, dear readers (if you exist), have a brief moment of bad conscience and return to enjoying life without updating this weblog.

Bad me.

But – maybe, just maybe I will post something every now and then, in case you are reading this. Thank you if you do! So – what’s new? I have the feeling that we’re back on track with our lives again. What exactly I mean by that- I won’t say. I prefer to stay cryptic right now, sorry.

But as soon as we reached the next target, I might remember to write an update..

And where are you, dear friends who promised to visit us in the first few months??? No visit so far, and be assured, the first few months are already over.

We just had some food before we went to see Spiderman 3; Anu had a chicken filled with peperoni and tomato, I decided to have a burger. The food was good, and the fries were the best we’ve had in Britain so far. The people were very friendly, too.

So why am I pointing this out? Just as a reminder for Anu and me. Sometimes you just would not believe how forgetful we are.

Well.. let’s see.. Anu has a bit of a cold right now and was on sick leave for the last three days. Last weekend we have been at a fire with a few new friends from a local Druid grove, which was nice. I couldn’t help it and cooked soup for the whole bunch. I do not know what it is that makes me cooking for spiritual group; but it’s something I just like to do.

Nobody died, so I guess the soup was kind of okay-ish, too.

Work is still cool. Starting to work here is soooooooo different than starting to work in Germany. It is true; once you’ve made it through all the job interviews and everything, they just trust you. I am at my new workplace for three weeks now, and all the time nobody really watched over me. I got firewall access -which I need to do my work, but which I also could abuse-, know important passwords.. it’s really nice to feel that level of trust.

Today there’s only a photo of me after I’ve had several pints with  my colleagues.

So what are we up to? Nothing much for today, probably watching another episode of Doctor Who and trying to cure Anu. And, of course, being happy.

If I had to pick something that really made my day today, it would be the realization that the gardens close to Princes Street are actually my canteen, the place where I go to have lunch. Amongst flowering trees, in the sun, with a view at the castle. Come on, be jealous! (I would be)

At the weekend we were invited to Tyninghame House and had a lovely time with our friends there:

Yesterday, we went to Glasgow to visit some friends. Tell you what, I’ve been there 1989 for the first time and never returned because I plain didn’t like the city. But people told me to go back there, because it had vastly improved over the last few years; unfortunately I didn’t notice and therefore didn’t take a single photo. Yes, digital photos cost nothing but still I didn’t find a good spot for a photograph. The people were very nice, though.

Well.. we have a nice flat since more than four weeks already; it actually is the ground floor of a small house very close to Leith Walk. In case you didn’t know, Leith Walk is a street going right up to the New Town and Princes Street with all kinds of shops and cafes. The rent we pay is very high for German standards, but still it’s really close to the city center and it’s a very nice flat.

Anu also works since four weeks now, and I will hopefully start working Monday in a week. Yesterday I received two job offers, and I decided to go for the more stressful job, because it also pays a lot more. So we’re basically pretty much settled, and now it is obvious we won’t return to Germany.

Photos, still.. I haven’t kept my promise, have I? Well , sue me. Or bear with me. We forget about actually updating the weblog because there is so much to do…

Can you imagine that we haven’t even been to Edinburgh Castle yet? It’s a shame, really.  But so far everything is just fine;I’ll just have to accept one of the job offers and then we will save money for a car and a holiday in France. You know, living in a new place doesn’t at all keep us from wanting to go on holiday… =)

It still feels very much like holiday, though.
